Parish Notes, 14th November 2010
Theme of the Mass: As the Church's year draws to a close and another year of life slips quietly by, our thoughts are directed towards the end of time. Jesus paints a picture foretelling the end of the world in terms of the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem. He also warns his followers to be prepared for tension, conflict and a difficult struggle ahead. The world which Christ describes has a familiar ring about it; something similar to the world we live in.
Glasthule and Sandycove Residents gather next Monday night at 8pm.in our Parish Centre. All welcome especially those who have opinions on how our community can improve its facilities. Future developments of this beautiful area will also be on the agenda.
Imogen Stuart: Our parish joins the many tributes recently paid to Imogen, our well known artist, sculptor and parishioner. Our President Mary McAleese presented her recently with the McAuley Medal at Limerick University, in recognition of her exceptional work throughout Ireland.
The Cab Driver and the Nun: A taximan picks up a nun and after a while she notices that the driver keeps staring at her. She gets a bit upset and asks him the reason. I hope you will not be offended, he says, if I tell you the truth. “No way “ she replies,” I may live in a convent but I work out in the community where I've met the good, the bad and the ugly. “Well, I've always had a fantasy to give a nun a kiss. OK she says but there are two conditions. You must be single and you must be a Catholic. Excitedly the taxi man almost shouts, I qualify! The nun says, “OK stop the car.” And he gives her a kiss but when he drives off again, he starts crying. “My dear child.” said the nun, “Why are you crying? “Forgive me Sister, but I have sinned. I lied, I must confess, I'm married and I'm a Baptist.” The nun says, “That's OK, I am on my way to a Halloween party, and my name is Paddy!!
