Parish Notes, 31st October 2010
Introduction: In the time of Christ tax-collectors were put in the same category as thieves and murderers. Because they worked for the Romans, they were regarded as traitors and treated as outcasts. One could understand then how the people of Jericho were offended when Jesus went to the house of Zacchaeus. Jesus justified his action by saying that Zacchaeus too was a son of
Abraham and entitled to the mercy of God. He came among us to seek out and to save. We all have a chance!

A pastor joke: One Sunday at Mass as the priest was giving his homily, a little baby in the front row suddenly started crying loudly. The mother did her best to pacify the child but nothing worked. So finally she got up and started to walk down the aisle to take the baby out of church. The priest stopped his preaching, and very compassionately called out to the mother, “That's OK! You don't have to leave. The child isn't disturbing me. “ The young woman turned around and said “No, pardon me Father, but it's you who are disturbing the child!”

Only Then Only after the last tree has been cut down; Only after the last river has been poisoned; Only after the last fish has been caught; Only then will you find that money cannot be eaten!
Chilean Miners: When the miners emerged into the light, their eyes were protected by sunglasses provided by an international company called Oakley Sunglasses. The sunglasses retail for $180 but it has been estimated it generated $41 million of free publicity. Internet searches surged by 1000% after the rescue. Believe it or believe it not!
Up North: Mr Robinson claims that he wants to dismantle the Catholic School System and restrict Catholic parent’s freedom of choice in the name of anti -sectarianism. But by launching an attack on Catholic schools, Mr Robinson has turned his gaze on the very people --- parents, teachers and local parishes --- who were fostering diversity and tolerance at a time when he was leading incursions into the South of Ireland and cheerleading his mentor Ian's hate-filled rants against Catholics.
