Introduction: Amos was the prophet of social justice. He spoke to the wealthy who were unconcerned about what was happening to their country which was about to be destroyed by the pagan Assyrians. And they hadn’t the slightest concern for the plight of the poor. Amos warned them that they would be the first to be led off into exile. The rich man in the Gospel passage is cushioned by a lavish life-style and oblivious to the presence of a poor man at his gate. This is a parable about the responsibility of wealth. Some of the harshest words of the Bible are directed at the uncaring rich!

Work on the Church: All of the works to the turrets are complete and the scaffold at the front of the church is now ready to come down. Barbary are awaiting confirmation of the start date from their scaffolders and it could be early as tomorrow. The majority of the new cast iron ridges are fabricated, drilled and painted and installation of these should commence next week. There are some of the posts and grilles still to be repaired at the foundry but with luck these should all be ready by next week and if all goes well on site the high level scaffold can also come down to allow them to work on the lower roof. The return of the stained glass windows is still a little time away.

Stained Glass Collection: The monthly collection for the Stained Glass Fund takes place after all the Masses next weekend.
